The Burren Artist Residency

In May 2022, I spent time at the Burren College of Art in County Clare, a place where stone and sky meet in quiet conversation. Returning to this landscape felt like tracing my own history — a reconnection with family roots and the remembered rhythms of a place that has always lived somewhere within me.

The Burren revealed itself slowly: through the silvered light on limestone, the scent of rain on rock, and the hush that settles over the fields at dusk. I walked and painted each day, letting the land seep into my work — its textures, its silences, its sense of endurance. The act of painting became a way of listening, of breathing with the landscape, of translating its presence into colour and mark.

The paintings that emerged are shaped by memory as much as by observation. They carry traces of the earth, the weather, and the fleeting emotions that surface when something long-known feels both near and distant. In them, I hope to hold a sense of place that is both personal and timeless — a quiet conversation between belonging and longing
